Unit 2: Reasoning & Proof
Lesson 2.5:
How Can We Learn to Reason in Algebra and Geometry?
What kinds of reasoning will we be doing in mathematics?
In algebra, you focused on the Properties of Equality.
These will be used in our two column proofs.
equality: a symbolic expression of the fact that two quantities are equal; an equation.
congruent: identical in form; coinciding exactly when superimposed.
Let's look at numbers 5 and 6 below to begin building our first two column proofs.
It is important to ask questions as we learn this new skill.
Learning a new skill can be challenging at times, but you will get better with practice.
You will soon be deducing solutions quicker than you can say, "Aristotle ought to squabble."
